Quad 204 is the £3billion redevelopment of the Schiehallion and Loyal fields, located175km west of the Shetland Isles and represents one of the most complex engineering challenges BP and its supply chain have ever undertaken.
Having been involved in the original development of the Schiehallion field that began producing in 1998, QAWT were again asked to supply parts for the diverless connection systems and pullheads for the flowlines.
Over 100 off 8” and 10” pullheads were supplied through 2014 across a workscope that included the development of project specific weld procedures suitable for the challenging conditions the equipment would be deployed in, carbon-manganese buttering, weld overlay using CRAs, through bore pipe-cladding, and induction bending.
The number of pullheads to be delivered required the setting up of a dedicated manufacturing cell fed by QAWT’s in-house pipecladding facility, with ancillary operations of induction bending and heat treatment carefully managed to maintain the rate of production.
